Piddies Parakeet Slippers

So adorable, sweet and darling. I’m trying to use words other than the over-used cute but that’s exactly what these baby slippers are. SO FREAKIN’ CUTE! And the little bird feet on the bottom of the slipper? ALMOST cute overload! Get them here at the Piddies Etsy shop.

Door Organizer by Milk Pail

I just received what I consider to be our last ditch effort for mail organization and key/wallet locating sanity…and it’s cute to boot. This is the Door Organizer from Milk Pail, another fabulous Etsy find. I’m crossing my fingers!!

Inspiration NOW!

NYPL Digital Image Gallery Cigarette Cards

I have been having a very tough time this winter trying to come up with a spring line of cards. And it’s been frustrating. Yesterday I came accross this post and felt rather silly that I had overlooked the various web sites there are to go to for direct source inspiration. Looking at design annuals is fine and can be very inspirational, but sometimes it helps to go to design history for some help. This also helps you avoid succumbing to the trend of the minute and instead can lead you to the next big thing…the trend you discover and run with.

So here are three direct source image databases that I am going to use this week for design inspiration:

New York Public Library Digital Gallery:: NYPL Digital Gallery provides access to over 600,000 images digitized from primary sources and printed rarities in the collections of The New York Public Library, including illuminated manuscripts, historical maps, vintage posters, rare prints and photographs, illustrated books, printed ephemera, and more. Watch out though, this database is huge and beautiful and sucks you in. Leave yourself A LOT of time for exploration. {Cigarette Cards pictured above}

Various Book Covers

The BookScans Database:: This is a database of book covers from many, many publishers. The site itself could be organized better but it is a really great place to go for historical layout, type and illustration examples.

Vintage Stamps

Champion Stamp Company :: This is actually a downloadable pdf catalog of stamps from 1935 - the present. Great illustrations and wonderful use of limited color palettes (especially in the earlier years). And for the brides out there this is a great way to add some interest to your invitation envelope.

Softies

One Red Robin Doddie Bear No. 4

Wee Wonderful’s Big Footed Bunny

It’s -4 degrees here in Minneapolis today and for some reason for me that means all I want to do is cuddle up be it with a good book, a soft blanket, or an adorable softie like one of these. I’m SUCH a baby when it comes to the cold.

{Above: One Red Robin’s Dottie Bear No. 4. I seriously want one…seriously. Below: Wee Wonderful’s Big Footed Bunny. This one you’ll have to make for yourself, here’s the pattern and here’s Wee Wonderful’s Flickr page to see much more.}

Comfort me…please.

Lorena Barrezueta

There are many things I love about owning my own business. The great design work I get to do, the people I get to meet, working from home, just to name a few. But there is one thing that tops the short list of things I hate and that is book keeping. Oh god, there is nothing worse and NOTHING that makes me feel more stupid and more ready to throw in the towel. Time to hire someone. Whenever I have to spend time doing this oh so painful task, I make a deal with myself that I get a reward afterward. Sometimes it’s a really fun design project, sometimes it’s watching something on abc.com. Rarely it’s food, but today, it’s food. It was a bad time today.

I love these porcelain pieces by Lorena Barrezueta. I collect Fiestaware and I think these would compliment my Fiesta very well, plus it’s not everyday you see pieces like these so refined but so comfort food-y. The above piece is from Barrezueta’s etsy shop which serves as her ‘Samples’, ‘Seconds’, and ‘Surprises’ shop. Let’s see, I think crusty bread in one compartment, yummy cheese in another and finally, for dessert, Nutella in the last. Mmmmm….comfort.

Hazel & Melvin’s Room

Conjoined Sock Monkeys

Yes, it’s a conjoined sock monkey, the funniest stuffed animal I’ve ever laid eyes on! They too are just one of many incredible offerings at No Coast. The creator of Kirby and Claude the conjoined monkeys is Rebecca Yaker of Hazel & Melvin’s Room. She also designs delightful baby items such as nursing pillows, diaper bags and crib bedding. The sock monkeys though steal the show in my opinion.

AO3 Designs Alexis Clutch

I have been nuts over clutches lately. Add a mixed pattern and I’m sold. I love this purse by AO3 Designs, a fellow Etsy-ian and No Coast-er. Actually, AO3 Designs is only a couple of tables down from me at the sale. Make sure to check her stuff out when you’re there. If you can’t make it go here to get this clutch or others like it.
